Biography of Hasan Yener, Director of Ankara University State Conservatory

Dr. Yener received his Bachelor of Music degree in voice/opera, from Dokuz Eylul University State Conservatory in 1989. After graduation, he conducted studies on vocal mechanism and singing voice at Speech and Hearing Clinic at Aegean University Medical School, in Izmir. In ‘91, succeeding a series of exams and auditions, he won the Turkish Ministry of Education Scholarship for studying abroad and went to the U.S.A for advanced studies. In ‘94, he received his Master of Music degree, in voice, from The Cleveland Institute of Music, in Cleveland, Ohio. In 2003. After successfully completing his doctoral studies in voice/opera and opera directing, he received his Doctorate of Musical Arts from Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana.During his stay in USA, he sang solo roles and received contracts from various prestigious opera houses, such as Cleveland Opera and Lyric Opera of Chicago.
He also gave many concerts in different cities in USA, such as Washington DC, College Park MA, Los Angeles CA, Chicago IL, Cleveland OH, Bloomington IN, Atlanta GA, Birmingham AL and Ann Arbor MI. Named as a world-class artist by the U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich, (the presidential nominee for the ‘08 elections), he worked and collaborated with world renowned singers, teachers and directors such as Giorgio Tozzi (Metropolitan Opera Soloist, Broadway and Holywood actor for many years), James King, Hermann Prey, Virginia Zeani, Camilla Williams, Gerard Souzay, Elly Ameling, Dalton Baldwin, Leonard Hokanson, Linda Jones, Leonard Warren, George Vassos, Bruno Bartoletti, David Bamberger, Michael McConnell, Mary Jane Johnson and Vernon Hartman. In ‘04, he returned to Turkey and soon after, he started to teach at Ankara University State Conservatory. In, ‘06 he received the title of Associate Professor. He served as the vice director and the director of the Conservatory, a member of the Administrative Board and the Academic Committee at different times as well as serving on the Inter-University Arts Education Committee. He was head of the Erasmus program at he conservatory for many years. Dr. Yener was appointed as tenured full Professor in ‘12. In ‘15, he was appointed as the director of Ankara University State Conservatory. Currently, Dr. Yener continues his international singing and academic career.
