Latest TASSA News Tidbits

As the date approaches fast for the online elections and TASSA 2007 Special Assembly to be conducted between December 7th and 20th, we would like to report about some other activities of TASSA which are still on-going. Stay assured that the nominees, along with their accompanying short bio’s and vision statements, will be announced prior to the Special Assembly so that our voting eligible members can start reviewing the credentials of the election candidates. Remember that only those who have paid the annual membership dues for 2007 by November 7th are eligible to participate at the online Special Assembly and vote.

In the meantime, below is some selected news related to the latest TASSA activities:

  • Dr. Norman Neureiter, Director of AAAS Center for Science, Technology & Security Policy and former Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State for Science and Technology (S&T), gave an invited lecture at Hacettepe University in Ankara on October 25th, 2007. Hacettepe Rector Tuncalp Ozgen met Dr. Neureiter for the first time at TASSA’06 where Dr. Neureiter was an invited speaker on the panel about U.S.-Turkey S&T collaboration. Dr. Neureiter reports that he received terrific feedback about his presentation in which he volunteered to emphasize TASSA (using the PP slides he requested from President Suleyman Gokoglu) as a great instrument for promoting more S&T cooperation between the U.S. and Turkey.
  • Prof. Selim Unlu, the chair of TASSA Nanobiotechnology Task Force, represented TASSA as an invited speaker at a special symposium organized by Suleyman Demirel University (SDU) in Isparta on 14-16 November. Both Prof. Unlu and SDU expressed their happiness with the outcome.
  • TASSA was invited to speak at the European Union 7th Framework Program's Mobility Summit being held at TUBITAK in Ankara on Nov. 26-27, 2007. Mr. Levent Yanik, former TASSA Executive Director, is representing TASSA on the program.
