Poster Presentations

You are invited to submit an abstract to the fifth annual TASSA conference to be held at University of Maryland, College Park, on March 3-4, 2012. Our vision is to establish a forum for many young and experienced American, Turkish, and Turkish-American scientists to explore and develop new collaborative initiatives.

Poster presentations will be held in two categories. These two categories are Scientific Presentations and Institutional Presentations.

1) Scientific Presentations: Scientific poster session will serve as a platform for principal investigators, students, and postdoctoral fellows who would like to present their research efforts. There are four sub-categories that encompass the four Technical Groups of TASSA. These four technical groups are;

  • Engineering & Applied Sciences
  • Health & Biomedical Sciences
  • Natural Sciences
  • Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities

General Rules and Guidelines for Poster Presentations:

  • Abstract submission deadline is February 15, 2012.
  • Abstract submissions are considered for poster presentation only.
  • Poster abstracts will be included in the conference proceedings.

Each abstract will be reviewed by the Poster Session Committee for (a) scientific content of the research and its relevance, and (b) its adherence to standard formatting rules outlined below. Please follow the generally accepted rules of preparation of professional scientific documents for your abstracts. Once the abstract is accepted, corresponding authors will be notified by the technical group members and receive further information regarding poster presentation rules.

Abstracts should be submitted via email to poster@tassausa.org as attached MS Word documents. Please indicate the category of your poster (Engineering & Applied Sciences, Health & Biomedical Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences, Art&Humanities) in the subject line.

POSTER SPECIFICATIONS

The dimensions of the poster board are 3 feet wide and 4 feet long. Please make sure that your poster size should be smaller than the board dimensions. Poster boards will be numbered prior to the poster session and you will be notified about your poster number by email. You will mount your materials on the board by means of push pins, which will be provided. Your poster presentation should contain succinct headings that organize and logically display the information. Graphics should be explicit and brief.  All illustrations should be made beforehand. You should keep illustrative material simple. Illustrations must be read from distances of approximately three (3) feet or more. The poster display should focus on Background/Objective, Methods, Results and Conclusions.

Title - The title should clearly identify the contents of the abstract. Capitalize the first letter of each word except prepositions, articles, and species names.

Authors and Affiliations - Each author name is entered separately. Each name is entered in corresponding fields for first (given), middle initial(s) and last (family) name. First names should be spelled out and not just given as an initial. You should provide information on each author's institution/affiliation. Do not give department, division, branch, street address, etc. when completing the institution information. Enter the City and State/Province (if from the United States or Canada) and zip/postal code. Use abbreviations whenever possible.

Abstract Text - Each abstract should consist of no more than 250 words, excluding the title and author information. The abstract text should be typed in MS Word. Insert sub or superscripts, boldface, italics, or other required symbols as necessary. Tables, if presented, should be as simple as possible since they will be reduced in size in the final product to fit in a column approximately 2.5" (6.4 cm) in width. Graphics (graphs, pictures, etc.) are not recommended as they are very difficult to properly size and as they will be printed in black and white.

2) Institutional Presentations: These posters will introduce institutes, research labs, universities, and other large and small facilities to TASSA members and conference attendees. Including informative pictures is highly recommended. (Abstract format of these posters are more relaxed but are restricted to roughly one page). Please note that audiovisual or power outlets may not be available for poster presentations.

The poster sessions are intended to provide a convenient and informal forum to stimulate exchange of ideas and knowledge. We expect that attendees from Turkey and the US will find this environment suitable to initiate discussions towards fruitful future collaborations. It is noteworthy that the poster sessions at TASSA’s conferences were highly popular and successfully met these objectives.
