Events to Explore Collaboration Opportunities between the U.S. and Turkey

As we end another year, we are pleased to share more options for “crossing the bridge” between the two continents (U.S. and EU) as a scientist and/or scholar. In this article, we will highlight two important upcoming events for those of you whishing to explore collaboration opportunities between the U.S. and Turkey/EU.

  • The EU-U.S. Innovation Conference (January 14-15, 2015, Brussels, Belgium)
  • Global Innovation Summit (February 20-16, 2015, San Jose, CA, USA)

1. The EU-U.S. Innovation Conference (January 14-15, 2015, Brussels, Belgium)
Austrian Research Promotion Agency will be organizing the “EU-U.S. Innovation Conference”, on 14-15 January 2015 in Brussels, Belgium. The main goal of the Conference is to highlight existing best practices and to promote the integration of the innovation aspect in the S&T Agreement to be renewed in June 2015 through more innovative and entrepreneurial principles.

Prominent U.S. experts from the U.S. State Department and the National Science Foundation (NSF) will discuss the importance of promoting research, entrepreneurship and framework conditions for successful transatlantic innovation cooperation with European Commission’s DG Research and Innovation as well as U.S. and European representatives from universities, among others.

The S&T Agreement between EU and the U.S. provides the formal inter-governmental framework with the aim to facilitate and enhance research and technology cooperation. Prior to the EU-U.S. S&T Agreement renewal, the U.S. and EU policy-makers will come together to discuss the extent of concreteness, clearness and direction the EU-U.S. S&T Agreement needs to reflect in the future.

A particular focus will also be given to the Member States (MS)/ Associated Countries (AC) activities. MS / AC representatives are invited to contribute with their national best practice examples on bilateral innovation cooperation and enhancing policies. Further, international SMEs as important sources for new employment, shall provide insights into their internationalization strategies.

2. Global Innovation Summit (February 16-20, 2015, San Jose, CA, USA)
The Global Innovation Summit is convening a major gathering of leading entrepreneurs, executives, scientists, inventors, venture capitalists, journalists, investors, policy makers, social entrepreneurs, and innovation thought leaders from all over the world.

The Global Innovation Summit (February, 16-20, 2015) is the anchor event for Global Innovation Week, which features multiple events and activities throughout the region. Together, they form a celebration for people ready to take action in cultivating new innovation ecosystems. They overall goal is to shift the paradigm for creating economic value by accomplishing these major objectives:

• Assessing, measuring, benchmarking, and mapping innovative capacity
• Designing real-life, real-time prototyping tools and frameworks to catalyze systemic, sustainable innovative growth
• Implementing and experimenting with projects to build dynamic innovation ecosystems successfully

Over 1,000 ecosystem builders/fellows from over 50 countries meeting at over 20 events are expected to attend this year’s Summit to connect, learn, and create together.
