TASSA Board Elects the Next Chairman and President

TASSA board has voted to elect Professor Candan Tamerler as the next Chairman of the Board and President of TASSA for the 2020-2024 term. Professor Tamerler served TASSA as the vice president and board member since 2002. She will assume the duties from the current chairman of the board and president, Haluk Unal in March 2020. 

Candan Tamerler is Wesley G. Cramer Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering Program at the University of Kansas. She serves as the Associate Director in the Bioengineering Program as well as the Director of Bio-mediated and Biomimetic Materials at the Institute for Bioengineering Research.

Dr. Tamerler’s research interests are in design, synthesis and development of bio-hybrid materials, devices and systems for a wide range of technological and medical applications using molecular biomimetics, biology enabled nanotechnology and biofabrication approaches. With more than 150 referred journal publications and several patents, her publications received >6850 citations (H-Index: 40). She has organized several symposia and conferences including those sponsored by the American Chemical Society (ACS), The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society (TMS), and the Materials Research Society (MRS). Dr. Tamerler is a Fellow of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA), the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), and the American Association to Advance Science (AAAS).
