Two TASSA Board members are elected to Science Academy in Turkey : Mehmet Toner and Aydoğan Özcan:

Congratulations to two members of the TASSA board, Prof. Mehmet Toner of Harvard University and Prof. Aydoğan Özcan of University of California at Los Angeles, who are elected as full members of the Science Academy in Turkey on December 2nd, 2017.

Prof. Mehmet Toner, is a world-renown biomedical engineer and inventor who has had an enormous impact in multiple fields including tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, low temperature biology and biostabilization, microfluidics and biomicroelectromechanical systems (BioMEMS), and nanobiotechnology. His biomedical engineering contributions represent shining examples of multi-disciplinary research or the so-called convergence science with far-reaching clinical and commercial implications. He was accepted to the Academy in the field of medicine.

Prof. Aydoğan Özcan is known for his use of computational algorithms to create new lensless optical microscopy, remote-sensing and diagnostic techniques for probing microscale and nanoscale objects. By expanding the field of view and time and space resolution of visible light microscopy, his inventions allowed three dimensional dynamic tracking of moving particles like human sperms.  The technology platform Dr. Özcan created  that lends itself to field-portable and cost-effective designs which can easily integrate with smart-phones to conduct microscopy, telepathology and diagnostics in remote areas where traditional techniques are difficult to implement and sustain. He is accepted to the Academy in the field of engineering.

These two new selections bring the total number of Science Academy members at the current TASSA board to three. Dr. Ercan Alp of Argonne National Laboratory was elected in 2014.

TASSA is looking forward to have closer relations with the Science Academy in Turkey.
