TASSA participated at the 33rd Annual ATAA conference

Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) successfully organized 33rd Annual Conference and 2013 Turkish American National Leadership Convention on April 25-27, 2013 in Washington DC. Conference program featured many high level talks on US-Turkish relations.

TASSA participated at the conference and organized a panel titled ‘“The Scientific Bridge Between Turkey & the US: Past, Present, Future”. The panel featured Drs. Haluk Unal (University of Maryland), Murat Tarimcilar (George Washington University), Sebnem Kalemli-Ozcan (University of Maryland) and Hasan Ayaz (Drexel University).

Dr. Unal opened the panel, welcomed and introduced the speakers. Dr. Ayaz, gave a brief history of TASSA, and spoke about the aims and the vision of TASSA. He also mentioned recent news such as signing of the Science and Technology Agreement between US and Turkey and Joint Commission meetings at Ankara. Also, Dr. Ayaz announced couple of new projects that are currently under way such as TASSA WISESS and TASSA Connect. TASSA WISESS is new initiative that aims to recognize the success of Turkish-American women in science, engineering and social sciences and learn from their experiences. TASSA Connect is a next generation information hub to facilitate interactive exchange between and across TASSA sponsors, members and affiliates. Dr. Kalemli-Ozcan talked about the collaboration opportunities, obstacles and responsibilities of major players. Dr. Tarimcilar gave a perspective of TASSA, shared his personal experiences and spoke about future global collaboration opportunities in higher education.
