Assistant Professor in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology at METU

The Department of Biological Sciences at the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara is inviting applications for an Assistant Professor position in the field of developmental and stem cell biology. We seek an individual with a PhD and postdoctoral training, an outstanding publication record, and funding experience. Strong familiarity with animal models and molecular genetic tools will be preferred.

The successful applicant is expected to establish an independent research group in the Department, and will be responsible for procuring extramural funding. These include Horizon 2020 Grants including Marie Curie Actions, EMBO Installation Grants, and national TUBITAK fellowships and start-up grants. Teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels and mentoring students are also required. The curriculum in METU is in English.

Deadline for applications is October 31st, 2013. Chosen applicants will be invited for a seminar by December 2013. The position is expected to start by Fall 2014.

METU is a public university and one of the leading research institutions in Turkey. The Biological Sciences Department (www.bio.metu.edu.tr) employs 28 academic staff and 80 research assistants. The Department offers undergraduate degree programs in Biology and Molecular Biology-Genetics, with 30 students accepted to both each year. The Department has about 60 M.Sc. and 30 and Ph.D. students. Main research areas include Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Cancer Biology, Ecology, Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, and Plant Biotechnology. The Department hosts 16 research labs and a rodent house. Projects are funded by the national and international sources, including three FP6 and three FP7 grants.
