24-month Marie Curie Fellowship for an Experienced Researcher* at Sabanc University, Istanbul, Turkey

As part of the Marie Curie Industry-Academia Partnership Programme, Sabanci University (Istanbul, Turkey) and Philips Research (Eindhoven, The Netherlands) are offering a 24-month post-doctoral fellowship in the IronDB project. The IRonDB project deals with MR-based brain image analysis, indexing, and retrieval for neurodegenerative diseases. It has an ambitious goal of helping solve the mysteries of occurrence and progression of neurodegenerative diseases by automatically processing and analysing large brain MR datasets.

We are looking for a talented, motivated, and team-oriented researcher who can also take initiatives in setting the future directions of research and enjoy being part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team. The candidate is expected to have good technical background, programming skills, and experience in, at least, one of the following technical areas: ? Image-based search and retrieval ? MR image analysis ? Pattern Recognition ? Registration and Segmentation

The researcher will be located at Sabanc University, Istanbul, Turkey for two years and at the world headquarters of Philips Research in Eindhoven, The Netherlands for one year as a Philips employee for the transfer-of-knowledge stage. The work at Sabanc University will be conducted in close collaboration with Anadolu Medical Center, affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, USA. The candidate will be fully funded by the European Commission and the stipend will be commensurate with the experience level according to the EU regulations. The starting date for the position is April 2007 or as soon as possible afterwards.

*According to the EU regulations, an experienced researcher is a researcher with at least 4 years of experience after B.S. A researcher with a PhD is immediately eligible. A person with Master’s degree and afterwards 2 years of work experience in industry are also eligible. Furthermore, due to the intersectorial nature of the project, we encourage applications from the industry. Further conditions may be required depending on the applicant’s nationality.
