M. Pinar Menguc of Ozyegin University Honored by The American Society of Mechanical Engineers
NEW YORK, Oct. 2, 2018 – M. Pinar Mengüç, head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and the director of the Center for Energy, Environment, and Economy (CEEE) at Ozyegin University in Istanbul, will be honored by The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
Prof. Dr. Mengüç will receive the ASME 2018 Heat Transfer Memorial Award for Art at the Society’s International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition this November in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mengüç is recognized for his strong record of technical accomplishments in original research contributions in radiative heat transfer and nanoscale energy transport.
A developer of advanced computer-based models, Mengüç’s research in both far- and near-field radiation transfer has been adapted for useful applications in both the energy and manufacturing sectors. He is an expert in the field of particle characterization, has also developed advanced diagnostic tools and measurement techniques, and has established a startup company to advance applications in this area. His pioneering research has been supported and funded by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and the National Institutes of Health, among other organizations in the United States.
As the director of the Center for Energy, Environment, and Economy at Ozyegin University, Mengüç has also had significant contributions to sustainable energy application for buildings and cities, with funding from the European Union FP-7 and Horizon 2020 Programs.
Prof. Dr. Mengüç is the author of more than 140 scholarly articles in journals worldwide and the co-author of two books. He is one of the editors-in-chief of the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer and was an associate editor of the ASME Journal of Heat Transfer. A fellow of ASME and International Center for Heat and Mass Transfer, Mengüç is also an elected member of the Science Academy, Turkey. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1985.
