WISESS Symposium

Women are agents of change. To have the 21st century be different in many dimensions from the rest including raging wars and increasing inequality we need to have more women in every aspect of life; not only as scientists and educators but also as leaders.

One of the goals of the 2014 TASSA Conference is to recognize the success of Turkish-American women in basic and applied as well as social sciences and learn from their experiences. The WISESS Symposium will bring together Turkish women scientists who work in America and Turkey together with women leaders of academia.

The goal of the Symposium is to develop a platform for Women Scientists, Engineers and Social Scientists (WISESS) to debate and shape the TASSA-WISESS strategy guidance document. We hope that to fully realize the operational domain for TASSA-WISESS, an interactive cyber forum will be launched under TASSA website. The Symposium will help assemble the TASSA-WISESS core groups to outline the strategy document to provide a charge statement for TASSA.

Overall this Symposium will ignite and  inspire ideas to harness the full potential of diverse groups towards developing a sustainable model for TASSA-WISESS activities. Based on the outcome, TASSA will equip WISESS teams to organize annual meetings to explore women leaders’ strategies, to introduce role models to young women scientists and scholars and, to assist career advancement strategies for young members as well as facilitate bridging two countries on research and educational issues to accelerate women scientists and engineers’ progress and impact as leaders.
