From The President: Happy New Year

Dear Friends of TASSA,

Happy New Year! As we start 2013 I wish once again everyone a successful and a healthy new year.

2012 has been quite important for TASSA. It was the resurrection year; it was the year when TASSA members once again joined forces in building and supporting the Turkish Science Diaspora in the US. Our 2012 March conference was a phenomenal success and since then the TASSA committees have been working very hard to make a difference. We hope to announce our 2012 Annual Report in our next issue and I am sure you would be quite pleased with the many activities TASSA undertook in the past year.

These efforts have been recognized by many circles. For example, the invitation from NODES for TASSA to tell its activities to the representatives of diasporas of many countries is quite honoring. Also, TASSA board members have been invited to participate in many functions in Turkey. We are trying and with your help we plan to do more in 2013.

Our membership base both at the institutional and individual levels are growing. Every new membership is a signal that TASSA is relevant and we are fulfilling the needs of our stakeholders. So please consider to be a member and to recruit new members for TASSA.

In this issue, we inform many successes of the Turkish Science Diaspora members. As you read through these stories I am sure you will be so proud of them. Please share with us what you do, what you hear, and any news that you want to share with thousands of recipients of The Bridge.

In a few weeks you will be receiving invitation from TASSA soliciting information on your scholarly and leadership accomplishments. We will put this information in a report and share with TASSA friends. I am hoping that you will participate in this effort that aims to showcase the contribution of the Turkish Science Diaspora in the USA.

With that I wish everyone an enjoyable winter term. Keep warm and stay healthy!
Cheers,

Haluk Unal
