From the President: Introducing The Bridge

  March 8, 2012

Dear Friends of TASSA,

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the TASSA newsletter, The Bridge. We are very excited that once again TASSA is providing this service to you.  Our objective is to strengthen the communication within the TASSA community.  The Bridge will inform you about TASSA Board and committee activities, news and job opportunities from Turkey, and accomplishments of TASSA members.  We plan to publish The Bridge bimonthly.

A caveat applies. We are not professional news people. Ms. Aylin Sagay, one of the quiet heroes of the Turkish volunteers living in the U.S., has graciously agreed to be the editor of The Bridge.  Other quite heroes Hasan Ayaz and Tugba Guntay are providing technical and editorial support. We thank Aylin, Hasan, and Tugba for assuming this responsibility. However, your contribution is also very crucial to achieve success. TASSA is asking each one of you to contribute to this newsletter by sending your accomplishments, collaborations or any other Turkish-American Academic news. Please be involved!

Few words about the planned features of The Bridge are in order. First, the Ministry of Science, Industry, and Technology of Turkey agreed to feed news to our newsletter that will be of interest to Turkish scientists and scholars. Same support will be received from TUBITAK. Therefore, we will have these two columns devoted to both agencies. We plan to add a column that will focus on the accomplishments of Young Turkish Scientists.

We also have the job openings corner, where we will post the academic positions at our member institutions. The objective is to let TASSA members be informed about these opportunities.

Finally, news from TASSA Board and committees will be featured. As we complete the organization of our technical groups you will hear more about their activities.
Again, this is a start and we hope to enrich this set up as time progresses. Our goal is to make this newsletter become the bridge between Scientists and Scholars both in the U.S. and Turkey and we hope to get your help to achieve this goal.

Thank you again for reading and look forward to hear from you.
