Beginning of a new era for TASSA

TASSA has successfully reached another milestone by finalizing the recent elections, which determined a president-elect, a treasurer, a new membership committee chair, three auditors, and renewed a portion of the technical groups on the Board of Directors. The results have been posted for a while on our Web site in the Forum <> area: http://www.tassausa.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=395 . These newly elected members of the Board have started their terms effective January 1st, 2007. We thank all the nominees for participating and for demonstrating their courage, dedication and voluntarism to contribute to TASSA.

Due to some technical electronic-voting issues, there was a delay in publicizing the results. Yet, the reported outcome set an example for the transparency and anonymity of the process, the principles TASSA is committed to protect at all times.

It is our pleasure to announce that Dr. Banu Onaral is the newly elected President-Elect of TASSA. Dr. Onaral is the H. H. Sun Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, and Director of School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems at Drexel University. She will begin her two-year term of presidency on January 1st, 2008. We extend her our whole-hearted congratulations and believe that her leadership will carry our organization to new levels of success.

We also announce with regret that Mr. Levent Yanik, Executive Director, had to leave his position as he and his family returned to Turkey to continue the next phase of their lives. Mr. Yanik has been a tremendous asset ever since the inception days of TASSA. He has helped since its founding, and has served tirelessly with grace, enthusiasm, uncompromising integrity under pressure and servant leadership. We are grateful for his contributions and thank him with utmost sincerity.

On the brighter side, the daunting task of finding a successor is over. We are happy to announce that Mr. Murat Tukel has been appointed by the Board to become the new Executive Director of TASSA effective December 25, 2006. Mr. Tukel is an Environmental Supervisor at the Ohio EPA and brings impressive credentials to our organization. We welcome and congratulate Mr. Tukel, and thank him for stepping up to this challenging commitment.

As you can appreciate, TASSA has been successfully transitioning from infancy to adolescence. It definitely needs your help and contributions to march forward, towards a more mature and successful future. Our upcoming Annual Conference is only a few months away. We urge you to become a new member, and do it (conveniently online) now! And if you have been a former member, may we remind you that it is time to renew your 2007 membership dues at your earliest convenience.

Respectfully,

TASSA Executive Committee
