TAMA and TASSA held their first joint conference in New York

On March 12th, the Turkish American Medical Association (TAMA) and TASSA held their first joint conference in New York City. TAMA celebrates the Medical Day (March 14th) annually by organizing scientific presentations in the afternoon followed by a traditional dinner ball. During this year's 38th anniversary, TAMA and the Health and Biomedical Sciences Technical Group of TASSA co-organized the technical session and started a new tradition of collaboration.

The afternoon session was organized in collaboration with Dr. Mustafa Akkoyunlu, a TASSA Board member on the Health and Biomedical Technical Group. The presentations started with a short introduction by Dr. Murat Gunel, the President of TAMA. He briefly talked about the mission of TAMA and introduced TASSA to the audience. This was followed by Dr. Ali Osman Gure talk entitled “A decade long search for antigenic reactivities in cancer reveals novel mechanisms of tumorigenesis and new targets for immunotherapy”. Next, Dr. Tamer Seckin discussed the role of laparoscopy in female health care. Following a coffee break, Dr. Ogan Gurel presented his thoughts on the medical workforce of the future. The afternoon scientific session concluded following Dr. Ozgen Dogan’s talk entitled “Your Heart is in Your Hands”.

This collaboration constitutes the first joint effort between TAMA and TASSA. TASSA congratulates our physician colleagues for putting together such successful events every year and for their agility in arranging these collaborations with TASSA in short notice, only three weeks after the election of TASSA’s first Board members. Both organizations agree that this was only the first of many joint activities to come in the future.
