TASSA Launches a New Initiative: The Visiting Scholars Program

The Turkish American Scientists and Scholars Association (TASSA) announces an exciting initiative called “The Visiting Scholars Program” with an objective to foster scientific cooperation between Turkey and the United States. The program requires no financial resources other than the volunteer TASSA members and the legendary Turkish hospitality.

A major goal of TASSA is to promote communication and cooperation between TASSA members in the US and their counterparts in Turkey. The Visiting Scholars Program is an endeavor well aligned with this aim. The program seeks to establish a mechanism to help match TASSA members who are already planning to visit Turkey and are willing to share their research activities and experience with their colleagues in Turkey. The Turkish Universities/Institutions, which express interest in the research area of the TASSA member, may host these volunteer applicants to give seminars on her/his scholarly efforts and interact with the faculty and the students of the hosting organization. We hope that this program will help disseminate scientific knowledge and promote the cooperation and collaboration between TASSA and Turkish universities.

TASSA is the coordinating organization of the program. Members who wish to present their work can submit an application to TASSA by filling in an online form. The Visiting Scholars Program Committee will convey the necessary information to the potential hosting institutions in Turkey. The potential hosting institutions will receive the following information about the applicant TASSA member: name, institutional affiliation, contact information, seminar title(s) with abstract(s), CV of the applicant, and the suggested dates and cities for the visit. If a Turkish institution considers hosting the TASSA member, then they would contact him/her directly to make the detailed arrangements of the visit.

We invite our members and Turkish Universities/Institutions to join TASSA’s efforts to build this cross Atlantic bridge as a step towards longer term scientific collaborations. TASSA members can join the program by logging on to TASSA web page and Turkish Universities/Institutions can be a hosting institute by sending an email to visitingscholars@tassausa.org.
