The Turkish Physicists Network (TPN) Meets in New Orleans

The Turkish Physicists Network (TPN) met in New Orleans on March 14, 2017. The meeting took place immediately following the Forum on International Physics (FIP) Annual Reception. TPN was warmly welcome by Dr. Cherrill Spencer, the Chair of FIP, and by Dr. Amy Flatten, the Head of the International Office of the American Physical Society (APS).

The meeting was attended by approximately 40 Turkish physicists, who are attending the APS March Meeting 2017. This is the fourth year in a row that we meet.

Dr. Amy Flatten addressed the TPN members exclusively, and encouraged them to take active part in the APS Divisions and Forums, including FIP.

TPN announced that Young Scientist Award to be given to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers attending the March Meeting, starting in 2018. Dr. Oğuz Gülseren and Dr. Bilal Tanatar of Bilkent University, and Dr. Ercan Alp of Argonne National Laboratory will work on establishing the ground rules for eligibility, the application, and evaluation procedures.

Ercan Alp also suggested that TPN develops close ties with Turkish American Scientists and Scholars Association, TASSA.

The general impression was that TPN is useful and can be functional in bringing the Turkish Physics Community with scientists working around the world.
