TASSA Board Elects the Next Chairman and President Dr. Ercan Alp
TASSA board has voted to elect Dr. Ercan Alp as the next Chairman of the Board and President of TASSA for the 2025-2028 term. Dr. Alp served TASSA as board member and the co-organizer of TASSA 2016 Chicago meeting , assumed the duties from the past chairman of the board and president, Dr. Candan Tamerler, in December 2024.
Dr. Ercan Alp received his BSc and MSc degrees from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, and PhD from Southern Illinois University. He joined Argonne National Laboratory in 1984, and worked with the first group of scientists to prepare the scientific case for the Advanced Photon Source. He is known for his pioneering work in x-ray spectroscopy. He is a member or Chair of many international science advisory committees for many research centers including SESAME in Jordan, Canadian Light Source and Turkish Accelerator Center. He was the chair of Forum on International Physics of the American Physical Society in 2014.
Ercan has supervised 14 PhD students, and a dozen postdoctoral fellows.
He has published over 360 papers, book chapters, and chaired numerous international conferences, and x-ray summer schools. Dr. Alp is currently an Argonne Distinguished Fellow. He is an elected member of the Academy of Science, Turkey. Dr. Alp was the co-organizer of TASSA 2016 Chicago biannual meeting.
