Dr. Ali Hortaçsu Awarded Koç University Rahmi M. Koç Medal of Science

Dr. Ali Hortaçsu is a Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago. Dr. Hortaçsu has been recognized for his outstanding success and significant progress in his field. Much of his work has focused on market mechanisms and their improvement. Hortaçsu worked on the problem of designing the auction mechanism that allows the U.S. government to refinance its debt, which involves running an auction where banks give different bids on interest rates when issuing bonds. In addition, he also worked closely with the European Central Bank on monetary policy that needs to be implemented through auctions. He has been a consultant to central banks, tech companies, and others related to market mechanisms.
