Manager/Chair, Beta-Cell Biology and Therapy, Kocaeli University

Kocaeli University Stem Cell and Gene Therapy Research and Treatment Center has a postdoctoral position available in the area of beta cell biology and treatment. Areas of interest include research programs focused on the use of pluripotent or adult stem cells to study pancreatic development, establish novel models of diabetes, investigating proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis of beta cells and/or develop new therapeutic approaches to treat diabetes.

The position is named Manager/ Chair in the Beta- Cell Biology and Therapy Unit. The University of Kocaeli is located close to the fascinating city of Istanbul with an outstanding global reputation for academic and research excellence. It employs over 2000 permanent staff supporting over 65.000 students. Beta-cell biology and therapy unit will be established under Kocaeli University Stem Cell and Gene Therapy Research and Treatment Center (KOGEM). The Faculty of Medicine of Kocaeli University is ranked among the top 10 faculties of medicine in terms of both the number of patients and the research facilities. KOGEM is one of the leading centers in Turkey focusing on stem cell research. KOGEM is located within the Kocaeli University Research Hospital. It benefits from stimulating interactions with physicians and clinical researches and also several platforms including flow cytometry, proteomics, genetics and animal research facility. Preserving rat pancreatic islets in vitro, obtaining stem cells from these islets and investigating their efficacy in pancreas regeneration are some of the significant studies conducted at KOGEM.

Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. or M.D., have postdoctoral experience (or equivalent), and a demonstrated track record in the areas of beta cell biology, beta cell development in the field of diabetes. The successful candidate will be expected to establish the beta cell laboratory, train other scientists in the field of beta cell biology, lead an independent research program and contribute to collaborative initiatives within the KOGEM.

Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience. The position is available at least 2 year fixed term contract. The position will be fully funded by Kocaeli University-Novo Nordisk R&D Cooperation Fund.
