Multiple Positions at Izmir University of Economics

The Department of Architecture is an academic unit of the College of Fine Arts and Design at Izmir University of Economics. Current enrollment in our degree programs comprises over 250 undergraduate and 25 graduate students pursuing the degrees of Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Architecture (thesis), Master of Advanced Architectural Design (non-thesis) as well as Master and PhD of Design Studies. The Department seeks applications and nominations of highly qualified individuals for the academic positions of:

Assistant or Associate or Full Professors in Architecture (Fulltime)

to teach design and core or elective courses starting in Fall and/or Spring Semester of 2016-2017 Academic Year. Teaching is at the undergraduate and graduate levels and includes lecturing, project monitoring and thesis advising. The (min. 12 course-hour) teaching load which makes 2 or 3 courses depending on the course content and hours could be a design studio, an undergraduate / graduate elective and must courses. The Department seeks applicants with concentrations in one of two areas of specialization:

  • Construction Science and/or Structural Design for Architectural Practices (construction and materials, structural engineering, building assemblies).
  • Computational Design Methods and Practices (representation, digital fabrication)

A PhD degree (preferably earned outside of Turkey) in architecture or related disciplines is required.  Candidates must possess a record of nationally recognized research, theoretical explorations, in the form of publications (minimum 1 published paper in indexed journals (SSCI; AHCI, SCI indexes). Those candidates with additional international professional and academic experience will have priority during the selection process.

Lecturer in Architecture (Fulltime)

to teach design and core or elective courses in undergraduate level starting in Fall and/or Spring Semester of 2016-2017 Academic Year. The (18 course-hours) teaching load can include a design studio, core and/or one elective courses in the faculty member’s area of expertise. In particular, dynamic and innovative educators are sought with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Construction Science and/or Structural Design for Architectural Practices (construction and materials, structural engineering, building assemblies)
  • Computational Design Methods and Practices (representation, digital fabrication)

Candidates must possess professional design experience and a record of nationally/internationally recognized built works. The accepted faculty is expected to be actively engaged in full-time work at the university.

A Master’s or higher degree is required and preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated record of excellence and experience in Design Studio Teaching and Architectural Practice. A minimum of 1 year of international experience in design education and/or architectural practice is strongly preferred.

  • A complete c.v.
  • Name and contact details for three references
  • Experienced practitioners should submit samples of their professional work and, for those with prior teaching experience, examples of students’ works
  • If applicable, a writing sample of approximately 10 pages excerpted from the candidate’s publications
